The Event: The “Don’t Miss” clogging event of the year, the Great Texas Hoedown will explode in the quaint little town of Blanco, Texas, on Nov 7, 2015! This fun event, sponsored by the Texas Clogging Council, occurs only every other year, and is intended to explore the roots of clogging – focusing on old-time traditional clogging, flatfootin’, buck dancing, etc., and figures such as Southern Appalachian Big Circle, Kentucky Running Set, Country Hoedown, and other fun stuff. (Yes, there will be some line dances, too, and a fun dance Saturday night!) All levels welcome, even beginners and non-cloggers!
Andy has a master’s degree in American Dance Studies, and teaches courses in clogging, tap and world dance at Florida State University, Santa Fe College and the University of Florida. He is the director of the American Racket clogging team, and he and his team have won multiple regional and national championship awards in both contemporary and traditional choreography and performance . They have performed and competed all over the U.S, as well as South Korea, Brazil, Canada and Costa Rica, often sharing the stage with such notables as Bill Cosby, Wayne Brady, and Ted Koppel. Although somewhat new to Texas, Andy will be one of our national instructors at the 2017 Texas Clogging Rally! Here’s your chance to get a sneak peak and help give Andy a big Texas –sized welcome! This is one you don’t want to miss! (Still not impressed? Then check out this Youtube link of Andy on Florida PBS television and prepare to be blown away! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNIZyjRKAKk)
The Location: This year’s event is returning to Blanco, Texas, where we’ll be dancing once again on the 100+ year-old wooden floor of the Old Blanco County Courthouse (used in the 2010 movie “True Grit”!) There are several restaurants within walking distance (literally right across the street) from the courthouse, as well as local shops & businesses. For those staying overnight, there are also several motels and B&Bs in town (a few listed below). Make a weekend of it – the renowned Wurstfest German Festival in New Braunfels will happening during this time, as well as are multiple attractions in nearby San Antonio and Austin, the LBJ ranch in Johnson City, shopping in Fredericksburg, San Marcos, etc.!
Oh, yeah – Did I mention this event occurs only every 2 years? If you miss this one, it won’t come around again until 2017! So come on out and have a great time!
