Each year the Texas Clogging Council seeks to recognize one of it's members as outstanding in promoting clogging within our State. We are proud to announce Newt Weeks as Texas Clogger of the Year 2007!
Newt started clogging with his lovely wife about 20 years ago with the Big D Cloggers. Within a year, he was dancing with a new group called the Dixie Style Cloggers under the direction of Glen McCrary, around 1987. At this early time of his dance career, he took on a task that most experienced dancers wouldn't even attempt ... he agreed to lend a hand with the National CLOG Convention to be held in Ft. Worth. SOMEONE decided it would be a great idea to have a clogging exhibition during the Thanksgiving Day Dallas Cowboys football game. Somehow, he got the job done and coordinated with the powers that be (of CLOG) and pulled off a halftime show with cloggers ... that went out on National TV. We don't know exactly how he convinced Tex Schram that this was a good idea, but he did. To this day, he is one of the BIGGEST Dallas Cowboy fans in the state.
You've read a lot about this friend of ours in the last Clogger. Here are some of the phrases that have been used to help describe him: "Dedicated." "Tireless." "Entertaining." "Creative." "Has a caring heart, gives 200% effort to TCC in any way that has been asked of him, from setting up tables, laying a dance floor, creating a Texas-sized backdrop" ... the list goes on and on. These are some of the characteristics of our Clogger of the Year - but the MOST OUTSTANDING characteristic of this man is his GIVING NATURE.
He's still dancing with the Dixie Style Cloggers and has been chairman for their Camp Esparanza workshop several times and has served in various other positions in helping with that event over the years. He has given his ALL to the Texas Clogging Council for many years ... in the past as Area VP and for the last four years as our President. TCC has been priviledged to have Newt representing us around the state and the nation. He's one of a kind ... and he's OURS!
